Its time to look more closely at the Panasonic FP3 and Panasonic FZ1000, former being a Ultracompact while the other is a Large Sensor Superzoom and both of them are sold by Panasonic. There exists a large gap among the sensor resolutions of the FP3 (14MP) and FZ1000 (20MP) and the FP3 (1/2.3") and FZ1000 (1") feature totally different sensor dimensions.

The FP3 was released 5 years earlier than the FZ1000 and that is a fairly serious difference as far as camera technology is concerned. The two cameras offer different body type with the Panasonic FP3 being a Ultracompact camera and the Panasonic FZ1000 being a SLR-like (bridge) camera.

To sum up, both of these cameras offer different megapixel count and different sensor sizing. The FP3 due to its smaller sensor will make achieving shallow depth of field more difficult and the Panasonic FZ1000 will produce extra detail as a result of its extra 6MP. Greater resolution will help you crop images a little more aggressively. The older FP3 will be disadvantaged when it comes to sensor tech.
