Quite often, it is difficult to envision the difference in sensor measurements purely by going through a spec sheet. The photograph underneath may give you a greater sense of the sensor dimensions in the A9 and RX100 III.

As you can see, both of those cameras come with different megapixel count and different sensor measurements. The A9 with its larger sensor will make achieving shallow DOF less difficult and the Sony A9 will show more detail with its extra 4 Megapixels. Greater resolution can also help you crop images a good deal more aggressively. The younger A9 will have an advantage in sensor tech.
