There is growing speculation about the motive behind the tragic death of photojournalist Albertina Martínez Burgos who was reported dead by the Committee to Protect Journalists in late November.
She was found to be stabbed and beaten, and all her photographic equipment went missing from her house and has not since been recovered. All this happened while she was documenting the Chilean protests and the clashes between the riot police and anti-government demonstrators.
Her sister has told the reporters that all her photos have gone missing. There are growing calls from news outlets for the government to investigate her death properly and provide more protection for photojournalists who are usually at the front lines of dangerous areas.
The protest has been ongoing since mid-October and started as a result of the subway fare rises in the capital of Santiago. The people are also protesting the privatization of the metro, inequality, and corruption in the country.
