$30,000 Photography Grant up for Grabs
$

Looking for a chance to showcase your talent in humanistic photography? Look no further! The W. Eugene Smith Fund is now accepting applications for its 44th annual Grant in Humanistic Photography.

With a whopping $30,000 as the first prize, this grant is one of the most valuable opportunities available for photographers worldwide.

But that’s not all! There’s also a second grant of $10,000 as a fellowship and a third grant of $5,000 that recognizes exceptional work. If you’re a student, don’t fret!

The Smith Fund also invites collegiate level students to apply for its 6th annual Eugene Smith Student Grant, where the top student entry will receive a generous $3,000 grant.

Since its inception in 1979, the Smith Fund has awarded over $1.2 million to photographers, supporting their past work and proposed projects.

This prestigious grant is presented to photographers whose work reflects the compassionate and humanistic approach of W. Eugene Smith, the renowned photographic essayist.

Curious about previous recipients? The list includes accomplished photographers like Maxim Dondyuk (2022), Nicolò Filippo Rosso (2021), Sabiha Çimen (2020), Mark Peterson (2018), Krisanne Johnson (2011), Stanley Greene (2004), Graciela Iturbide (1987), Donna Ferrato (1985), and Eugene Richards (1981).

Last year, Maxim Dondyuk was awarded the major grant for his remarkable series titled “Ukraine 2014/22.” This series chronicles Ukraine’s ongoing fight for independence, particularly highlighting the country’s struggle during Russia’s invasion in February of last year.

The Smith Fund’s website features this series and the other remarkable projects from previous grant cycles.

It’s worth noting that all grants offered by the Smith Fund rely on the generous contributions of corporations, foundations, and individuals. The global economic downturn has resulted in reduced funding for the fund this year. As a result, the annual Howard Chapnick Grant, which supports photojournalists, will not be presented this year.

Nevertheless, the Smith Fund is determined to support its core grant and fellowships while continuing to raise funds to reinstate the Chapnick Grant and build reserves for future grants.

Ready to seize this incredible opportunity? Head over to the organization’s website and submit your applications for the 44th annual Grant in Humanistic Photography and the Student Grant.

Take your passion to the next level and let your photography leave a lasting impact! Submit now and never stop creating!
