Blackmagic has finally released the highly anticipated DaVinci Resolve version 18.5 update. This update brings over 150 new features to the popular video editing platform. After being in public beta since April, it is now fully ready for public use.

Existing customers can download the free update from Blackmagic’s support portal. This update includes several significant enhancements that will transform the way editors utilize the platform.

Blackmagic has made improvements to the cut page, such as multiple timeline display, edit actions, and a reorganized toolbar.

They have also introduced support for Blackmagic Cloud Presentations and utilized the DaVinci Neural Engine for tasks like generating subtitles from audio and performing text-based editing in Studio.

DaVinci Resolve version 18.5 also introduces support for Universal Scene Description workflows in Fusion. It features a new Fusion multi merge tool for compositing multiple layers.

Remote monitoring improvements, fast per-timeline backups, and per-timeline Resolve Color Management have also been added. Additionally, support for edit and mix groups in Fairlight and artificial intelligence-based audio classification in Studio are among the new features.

Blackmagic’s CEO, Grant Petty, described this release as a major update designed to streamline workflows. He highlighted the AI tools, such as Resolve FX relight for colorists, Universal Scene Descriptor files for collaboration with VFX artists, AI audio classification for audio engineers, and speech-to-text editing.

These tools aim to increase productivity and provide more time for creative work. The new menus on the cut page have also been designed for simplicity and efficiency.

A new standalone application called Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite has been added to the DaVinci Resolve installer. The DaVinci Resolve Studio installer now includes the Blackmagic Proxy Generator and the DaVinci Resolve Monitoring app.

Mac OS and Windows users can download the latest version of the DaVinci Resolve Project Server from the Blackmagic Design Support page.
