Yongnuo Unveils 50mm f/1.8 Lens for Fujifilm X-Mount Cameras

Yongnuo, the affordable photography brand, has unveiled the YN50mm f/1.8X DSM Pro lens for Fujifilm X-mount. Priced at $265, this lens offers autofocus functionality alongside two unique features.

Unlike traditional lenses, the YN50mm f/1.8X DSM Pro appears to have only a focus ring, potentially requiring aperture control through the camera. However, it surprises with a dual-functionality control ring that can switch between focus and aperture control.

Although Fujifilm shooters might be accustomed to dedicated aperture control rings on their “R” lenses, Yongnuo’s approach aims to differentiate itself with an attractive price point.

Another noteworthy feature is the inclusion of a small OLED display on the top of the lens. This digital “window” indicates the current aperture setting and serves as a quick reference for photographers wanting to check their aperture settings at a glance.

Not all Fujifilm cameras have a top-mounted display showing the current aperture, so this addition may be beneficial for certain users. It’s worth noting that this display provides less information compared to the implementation seen on Viltrox lenses.

Optically, the YN50mm f/1.8X DSM Pro lens is built with 11 elements arranged into eight groups, and Yongnuo highlights the use of coatings, rather than special optics. With an aperture range of f/1.8 to f/16 and a nine-bladed diaphragm, this lens offers versatile options for capturing images. It relies on a stepping motor for autofocus and lacks optical image stabilization.

Yongnuo confirms compatibility with various Fujifilm X mount cameras, including the X-H2S, X-H2, X-Pro3, X-T5, X-T4, X-T3, S-S20, X-S10, X-T30 II, X-T200, X-E4, and others.

The YN50mm f/1.8X DSM Pro lens is available for purchase directly from Yongnuo’s website. The price of $265 is accompanied by a shipping fee of $28 to the United States, with an estimated delivery time of 10 to 15 days.
