DJI ceases support for popular Phantom 4 drone model
D

The era of the DJI Phantom drones is coming to an end. DJI has officially discontinued support for the DJI Phantom 4 and the DJI Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian Edition.

The Phantom 2 and Phantom 3 4K drones had their support ended in September 2022. This means that now only the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2 is left in DJIā€™s lineup, although it is currently out of stock.

The DJI Phantom 4 was released in March 2016 and ceased production in January 2017.

It was followed by the Phantom 4 Advanced in April 2017 and the Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian Edition in April 2018. DJI caught everyoneā€™s attention with the release of their first Mavic drone in September 2016, which ultimately led to the decline of the Phantom drone market.

Although the Phantom series initially had some advantages over the Mavic drones, the Mavicā€™s folding design and portability quickly made it a popular choice.

As the Mavic line continued to progress, the DJI Mavic Air in 2018 became the final blow to the Phantom series.

DJIā€™s discontinuation statement for their products is a generic message that talks about the life cycle of electronic products and the companyā€™s focus on developing new products and technologies.

While DJI has not announced an end date for the support of the Phantom 4 Pro V2, it is expected to happen soon.

The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has surpassed the capabilities of any DJI Phantom drone. With its compact and foldable design, it is unlikely that DJI will release another drone in the Phantom series.

Currently, the only drone available in DJIā€™s Phantom product line is the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2. It is still listed on the DJI website with a ā€œBuy it now!ā€ button, but unfortunately, it cannot be purchased at the moment.

Retailers such as B&H show it as temporarily out of stock with a 4-6 week wait time.

Considering the current situation, it is highly unlikely that we will see a Phantom 5 or even a new version of the Phantom 4 Pro. It seems like the Mavic drones have taken over the spotlight.

If you are still using a Phantom drone, it might be time to consider upgrading to a newer model. Donā€™t miss out on the latest advancements in drone technology!
