Sigma is celebrating its 10th year in the Chinese market with a special edition 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic lens. This lens shares the same optical construction as the original version, but without coated elements.
This means that it emphasizes flare and lightens contrast, giving photographers a unique look to their images.
The original Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens for DSLRs was a game-changer when it was released in 2012. Now, its mirrorless successor, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN, continues to push the boundaries of third-party lens options.
With the launch of the new lens, Sigma showcased its expertise in optical design and advanced production techniques.
The lens was completely rebuilt for mirrorless cameras, taking advantage of the company’s decade-long experience since the original 35mm f/1.4 hit the market.
To commemorate their successful 10 years in the Chinese market, Sigma is releasing a very limited number of the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic lens. Only 200 units will be available to customers.
The term “Classic” might suggest that the lens is housing the original DSLR formula within a mirrorless lens body. However, it actually refers to a design shared with Sigma’s cinema lenses that carry the Classic name.
The Sigma Cine Classic line offers cinema lenses with the same optical construction as their standard lenses but without coatings.
This lack of coatings produces a distinct artistic flare and visible ghosting when a light source is present in the shot. Additionally, these lenses are known for their tastefully low contrast.
Sigma’s Cine Classic lenses are designed to provide unparalleled artistic expression and have been optimized for ultra-high resolution shooting. This collection consists of 10 prime lenses and can be purchased as a bundle for $44,000.
Photographers can expect the same artistic look from the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic lens.
Images obtained by Asobinet highlight the lens’s flare capabilities, giving a glimpse of what photographers can achieve with this limited edition offering.
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Classic lens will be exclusively available in China, sporting the E and L-mount options. It will be offered at a price of 7,910 yuan, which is approximately $1,100.
