Threads has just released their biggest update so far. Users can now rejoice as the long-awaited “Following” tab has arrived!

In an exciting announcement today, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Threads will be introducing a new feature that allows users to view a chronological feed of posts from the accounts they follow in the app.

Zuckerberg responded to a user’s request for the follow feature earlier this week, stating “Ask and you shall receive.”

The new Following tab replaces the algorithmically curated content found in the “For you” feed with a straightforward chronological display of posts from users you follow. Simply double tap on the home button in the Threads app to access this tab. To switch between the For You and Following feed, users can tap on the Threads logo or home icon and swipe accordingly.

To enjoy this new feature, make sure to update your Threads app to the latest version.

Alongside this exciting update, Threads now allows users to sort their Activity feed by follows, quotes, and reposts. Liked posts can also be viewed in settings, and certain posts can now be translated if they appear in a different language.

Since its launch on July 5, the option to see a reverse chronological feed featuring posts exclusively from followed accounts has been one of the top requests received for the Threads app.

Threads, known as Meta’s rival to Twitter, experienced tremendous growth, reaching a staggering 100 million users within its first week. However, data subsequently revealed a decline of nearly 70% in daily active users since its peak.

While Threads may resemble Twitter in some aspects, it lacks key features found on Elon Musk’s platform, including desktop functionality and topic search capabilities. These features heavily contribute to Twitter’s widespread popularity.

Nevertheless, this latest update is expected to keep Threads users engaged and hopefully spur further momentum for the app.

On July 18, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his optimism regarding the Threads community, stating, ‘Early growth was amazing, but what’s even more important is that millions of people return daily… Our focus for the remainder of the year will be on improving the basics and increasing user retention.’
